Rising Demand for Microsoft 365 in Local Government

While many municipalities are still in the early stages of adopting Microsoft 365, momentum is building rapidly. Recent enhancements to the “Municipal Information Security Enhancement Platform” by the Japan Agency for Local Authority Information Systems (J-LIS) have made it possible to authenticate Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise via LGWAN. This development is creating a more conducive environment for local governments to implement cloud-based services. The upcoming end of extended support for Office 2016/2019 in October 2025 has further accelerated the shift toward subscription-based Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise.

As more local governments transition to M365, the need for advanced communication tools—such as segmented announcements and high-visibility alerts—has grown significantly.
